Story of the Signed Poem

Sun plows the fields in Alexandria

Da Shun, or Emperor Shun, was once the son of a blind old man. His father was stubborn, his mother was strict, and he had a younger brother named Xiang who was arrogant. All three of these people often tried to harm him.

But Shun was still very obedient to his parents and accepted small punishments. If his parents lost their reasoning and whipped him, he ran away. He was afraid that his parents would be charged with murder. When he ploughed the fields in Calendar Mountain, there were elephants and birds automatically came to help plowing.

When he was twenty years old, Shun became famous for his filial piety. When Shun was thirty years old, Emperor Yao asked Siyue who among the world could inherit the throne of the common lord, and Siyue recommended Shun. The four mountains recommended Shun, who later accepted Yao's offer of the throne to him.
