The story of the poem
Hou Yi shoots the sun, Chang E runs to the moon
There are ten suns living in Tanggu, a place in the east, all of them are the sons of the Heavenly Emperor. These ten sun brothers took turns to be on duty in the sky under the arrangement of their mother. One day, however, all ten suns rose together in the sky, causing the earth's grass and trees to wither, the rivers to dry up, and the people to die of heat. A god named Hou Yi saw the suffering of the people and shot down nine of the suns with a divine arrow, leaving only one sun to continue to bring light and heat to mankind.
The Heavenly Emperor was furious when he learned of the incident and relegated both Hou Yi and his wife Chang'e to mortal status. Hou Yi felt guilty for involving his wife, so he went to the Queen Mother of the West to ask for the Elixir of Immortality, which he was going to share with Chang E. But Hou Yi was unable to find the Elixir of Immortality, and he was unable to find the Elixir of Immortality. Who knows that Chang'e swallowed the elixir all by herself, and suddenly her feet left the ground and rose to the moon in the night sky.
